Established to prepare young women for business, industry or teaching occupations, Georgia Normal & Industrial College was created by Act Number 590 of the Georgia legislature (8 November 1889). From that moment on, the university has had an exciting history that has involved fires, the Great Depression, World Wars I & II, and five name changes.
