Indian Spring Hotel papers

Provenance and Arrangement

This collection was donated by Ms. Deryle Lamb via deed of gift in December 2018.

This collection contains research and planning related to the restoration and renovation of the Indian Spring Hotel property undertaken by the Butts County Historical Society under the leadership of Ms. Lamb. These documents contain information about renovation projects undertaken during Lamb's tenure as Society President in the 1990s and information gathered to prepare the property to act as a museum of Native American history and culture. The bulk of this correspondence is with historic preservationist Reneau de Beauchamp of The Current Past. Of particular interest is the report compiled by Beauchamp titled "Structural History of the Indian Spring Hotel" prepared for the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Correspondence with people and organizations consulted in efforts to find funding for the project are also represented, including contact with construction contractors for services such as painting and roofing. Images of the hotel and grounds before, during, and after renovation are included, as well as images of historic properties used as references during the restoration process. The Butts County Historical Society prepared a scrapbook documenting the restoration work, but it was partially dismantled before its donation. What remained intact has been scanned for future digitization. Books, articles, and audiovisual materials used in researching Native history and culture are also represented in this collection. Publicity related to the renovation and reopening of the Hotel are included also.
