Library 3D Printing

3D Printing Procedures

In order to best serve the community, Russell Library adheres to the following procedures:

  • The Library’s 3D printers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, priority will be given to students printing objects that influence their grade in a current course (proof may be required.)
  • Due to limited staff and hardware resources, the library does not guarantee specific delivery times. It is recommended to budget at least 48 hours from time of submission to pickup.
  • Charges for 3D printing cover only the cost of the materials used to print the product (filament and base, no charges for overhead, labor or machine cost).
  • Users will be responsible for covering materials costs whether or not the print completes properly.
  • The Library 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. No one will be permitted to use the printers to create material that is:
    • Prohibited by local, state or federal law;
    • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others (Such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.);
    • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library or university environment;
    • In violation of another's intellectual property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection; and
    • Models that may result in legal action against the university, its employees, and/or its students and reserves the right to refuse any 3D print requests;
  • Accordingly, Library staff may ask you to provide proof that the work to be printed is:
    • Your creation;
    • Public domain;
    • Part of your research or coursework at GC. In some cases it may be necessary to provide either written confirmation from an instructor that an object is for a class/project; and
    • Does not conflict with any Georgia College policies or the restrictions stated above.
  • Only designated Library staff/student assistants will have hands-on access to the 3D printers.
  • Printed items must be picked up by the individual who printed them using a picture ID.  Items will be available for pick-up from the Circulation Desk.
  • Items printed from the Library 3D printers not picked up within 7 days after being printed become the property of the Library.
