Using Galileo to find newspapers

Galileo can be very useful when searching for back issues, archives, or hard to find articles from your news sources.

First, how to use Galileo to find newspaper articles.

  1. Go to galileo.usg.edu OR find it at gcsu.edu/library OR find it through Unify or GaView
  2. Choose Georgia College from the list and have your Unify credentials handy
  3. From the main search box, type in the search terms for your topic and click “Search”
  4. Under “Refine Results,” choose the following:
    1. Limit To: Full Text
    2. Publication slider: 2000-2020
    3. Limit by Type: News
    4. Geography: your country
  5. Skim the results list for titles that are relevant to your search, and also for sources that may be from your country
  6. You may not find any news sources from your particular country, but you are allowed one source from a US or international newspaper.
  7. To read an article, click on “PDF Full Text” or “HTML Full Text.”

Searching a Newspaper Database in Galileo

  1. From the Galileo homepage, choose “Newspapers” from “Databases by Type.”
  2. From the list, choose “International Newsstream.”
  3. Type “General interest periodicals” a dash, and the name of your country. Then choose “In Subject” and click “search.”
  4. From the title list, check the coverage.
  5. To search within a publication, click on the title, then use the “search within this publication” box.
  6. Click “Find It @ Galileo” if you need to. Follow the prompts to set up an interlibrary loan account.
