Intro to 3D Modeling

In this workshop we will be introducing some methods you can use to create your own unique model that can be used for 3D Printing.

What is 3D Modeling?

  • 3D Modeling or three-dimensional modeling is the process of creating a 3D representation of an object or surface using polygons, edges, and vertices to create this likeness.
  • You do not need to be overly interested in mathematics or have strong artistic abilities to 3D Model.
  • You should have patience and a willingness to learn new methods.
  • There are many choices of 3D Modeling software available that can be free and expensive. Some programs give you greater control of your model but are more complex to use while others are simple to use but you will have limited capability.

How to Start

  • It's highly recommended to use a reference when modeling. Find an image from the internet or use a drawing to reference your model. Do not start off modeling something complex or hyper realistic like a face!
  • Keep it simple and see how you can start your model with basic shapes.
  • This workshop will get you started and once you're more comfortable you can build upon your skills.
