Daniel B. Sanford was the son of Daniel Sanford and Elizabeth Totley Sanford. He served as a Deputy Clerk to the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Clerk for the Georgia Secession Convention held in Milledgeville, Georgia, in 1861. He enlisted in the Confederate Army as a private in the "Green Rifles," which became Company A. He was wounded and then paroled in 1865 and returned to Georgia. He was admitted to the Milledgeville Bar Association in 1867 and practiced with the law firm D.B. and D.S. Sanford. He served as Ordinary of Baldwin County starting in 1873 and County Commissioner beginning in 1889. Sanford also served as President of the Milledgeville Banking Company, President of the Board of Trustees Georgia Military College, and Commander of Robert E. Lee Camp, U.C.V. Sanford married Elizabeth D. Stetson Sanford in 1868 and began living in the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House in Milledgeville. Correspondence includes letters to his wife and from his wife's friends until her death in 1886. It also includes correspondence of his two children - Daniel S. Sanford and Elizabeth Edith Sanford.
